Cooperative Education Program

The Co-op program is unique and places students in the workplace of their choice weekly during the school year. Our students have been learning to be hairdressers, carpenters, landscapers, aestheticians, daycare workers, actors, wood carvers, and even taking part in a cultural "boot camp." These opportunities help out students discover what type of work they might prefer after graduation and gives them the experience they need to get hired!

Goals of the program

  • To combine school based learning with workplace/community experience.

  • To increase the rate of high school graduation and subsequent employment among the aborginal students who attend Stu"ate Lelum Secondary.

  • To explore a career that interests the students before they get out into the work force and to earn credits towards graduation.

  • Co-op education is a great way to foster partnerships between the school and public and private sector employers.
